Laverne Wilson-Valis

Having spent her entire career in New York City, Laverne Wilson-Valis knows the city well. She currently lives in Brooklyn and has been running her own company since 2021. Prior to forging her own professional path, she spent over two decades working with the New York City Police Department. She has always been passionate about serving the public and is grateful for the many skills she gained while working with the police department. Laverne was an instructor at the police academy and eventually moved into a supervisory position where she helped ensure adherence to standards and guidelines.

While working with the police department, Laverne Wilson-Valis had to navigate the complexities of supporting her ailing father through the end of his life. This season took quite a toll on both Laverne and her mother, requiring extensive time and energy to ensure his needs were met while juggling their own personal responsibilities. This experience gave Laverne a new insight into the challenges of caring for aging family members. She is passionate about empowering elderly individuals to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible, but she recognizes that without support and resources, this can be difficult.

All of this gave Laverne Wilson-Valis a vision. In 2021, she pivoted her career and founded Elder Friends Concierge Services ™️, the business she now manages full-time. Elder Friends Concierge Services ™️ is run by a team of trustworthy and highly trained professionals who provide a wide variety of non-medical services for elderly residents across New York City. They help to lighten the load on family members by providing companion care, performing wellness checks, running errands, and other services. They create a personalized and tailored plan for every client, whether they need round-the-clock care or just a couple of visits a week.

Laverne Wilson-Valis understands that leaving your loved one in the care of a stranger can be stressful. With this in mind, she is committed to providing extensive training in a variety of areas. Every employee undergoes extensive background checks and receives training in CPR, elder safety, diversity and equity, and other topics. One particular area that Laverne prioritizes is specific training for working with elderly members of the LGBT community. Elder Friends Concierge Services ™️ is a member of SageCare and is dedicated to ensuring that every client is treated with empathy, respect, and compassion, regardless of their background.

Through Elder Friends Concierge Services ™️, Laverne Wilson-Valis hopes to make it easier for many elderly individuals to age in place, staying in the comfort of their own homes for as long as they can. However, she understands that for some clients, their care needs eventually progress beyond what can reasonably be provided in their own homes. Rather than leave families to navigate the numerous assisted living and long-term care options available by themselves, Laverne also provides consulting services to help them choose the best possible option for their loved ones if the need arises.
